The Moxie of Ida Rose Young

The second original stage play from Toby Tarnow & Ellen Cunis, the writers of The Big White House on Main Street.

At its heart, The Moxie of Ida Rose Young is a timeless love story. A work of historical fiction inspired by the life of Nellie Tayloe Ross, The Moxie of Ida Rose Young reimagines the life of the first woman governor in the United States of America.

In 1925, after the death of her beloved husband, the standing governor, Ida Rose Young, at the urging of her husband’s close advisors, agrees to run to fill the Governor’s seat for the remainder of his term. While still grieving her crushing loss, Ida must overcome significant obstacles to advocate for all women during the time of prohibition, the suffrage movement and civil unrest.

Motivated by her husband’s enduring memory and their shared commitment to the people they serve, Ida Rose Young is a catalyst for change in her community, her family and the nation she loves.
